Grown, picked and dried right here at Barrington on Green

Rosemary is one of the hardest working plants on our little urban homestead. It thrives in Christchurch weather, keeps flowering for our bees and fills the garden with that wonderful piney scent every time you brush past it. We harvest the sprigs from our own garden, dry them gently, and strip the needles ready for your kitchen.

Nothing added. Just 100% rosemary from our 100 m² patch in the middle of the city, grown without sprays.

How to use it

Rub over roast lamb, chicken or pork before cooking

Toss through roast potatoes, kumara and pumpkin with olive oil and garlic

Knead into focaccia, bread dough or savoury scones

Add to tomato sauces, soups, stews and slow cooked beans

Steep in warm olive oil for a simple rosemary oil for dipping or drizzling

Handy tip: dried rosemary is stronger than fresh, so start with about a third of the amount a recipe asks for. Crush the needles between your fingers or in a mortar and pestle to release the oils and soften the texture.

Storage: keep in an airtight jar, away from heat and sunlight, for the best flavour.

Every jar helps us grow food security in the city, one garden bed at a time. Thank you for supporting a small homestead with big ideas.
